**Position Summary:** This position is responsible for establishing effluent limitationsto control conventional, toxic, and organoleptic substances for surface water dischargers including discharges from contaminated groundwater remedial action sites, Superfund sites and other permitted dischargers in accordance with applicable statutes and administrative codes.This position calculates limitations in order to issue municipal and industrial Wisconsin Pollution Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permits. The main purpose of this position is to protect human and environmental health and welfare by calculating effluent limits that control the discharge of pollutants from Wastewater Treatment Facilities.
**Special Notes:**
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required**I-9** form upon hire.
To apply for these positions, you must meet at least one of the requirements below:
* Registration as a Professional Engineer,
* A degree in an Engineering field from a recognized college or university,
* A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing 4 years or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional engineering section and satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam;
* OR have equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional engineer as defined in Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. AND also deemed to be qualified to engage in professional engineering practice as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04 or 443.05, Wis. Stats.
Minimally qualified candidates for the entry level will have training, education and/or experience in any engineering field and effective oral and written communication skills.
Minimally qualified candidates for the senior level will have experience with engineering in a water resources related field and effective oral and written communication skills.
Minimally qualified candidates for the advanced level will have experience calculating water quality based limitations and effective oral and written communication skills.

*Salary:* Starting hourly pay for Entry is between $22.00-$28.00. Starting pay less than $26.97 will progressively increase in 6-month increments up to $26.97. Senior is between $28.00-$32.00; Advanced is between $29.00-$37.00. Employees with an active Professional Engineer license are eligible for $1.00 add-on. Pay upon appointment for current or former state employees based on State Compensation Plan. These positions are in Pay Schedule/Ranges 14-13, 14-14. A 12 month probation may be required.
